Be Your Own True Self

messykids This week Real Simple Magazine is promoting being your own true self on Social Media. Yay! I’ve been looking forward to this for a while because I plan on dedicating this week to doing just that. SO, let the honesty begin.

I own a babysitting placement service, and I also babysit for families, and I love them all. Truly I do. I’ve been very blessed, and here is the BUT; children are difficult at times! The need to exercise patience is ever-present. When I feel the urge to lose my patience, and there is a physiological reaction that I recognize I have to take a lot of deep breaths, a lot! I even have to laugh at myself sometimes. When the 2-year-old starts the phase of repeating the last part of what you just said over, and over again I want to scream after 2 hours BUT instead I laugh at myself because I recognize how really silly I’m being. The temper tantrums that 3-year-olds begin are excruciating. I’ve even had a 3-year-old lose his cool when I was driving him home, and he told me it wasn’t the right way! WHAT? I’ve been driving this way for over a year and all of a sudden a 3-year-old has a definite panic attack and needs to tell me I’m going the wrong way! I calmly tell him that it is the same way we’ve gone for over a year, but he keeps going. I have to breath…A LOT!

Children are the best! They always point out your weaknesses, it’s unintentional; that’s what makes it so great, and you are given so many opportunities to improve yourself. I truly believe that my communication skills have improved since starting my business, and my patience has improved 10 fold if not more. Thank you children in my life, and I’m super glad I have a sense of humor in order to laugh at myself.
